The “F” Word- Fulfillment
November 26, 2018
According to the dictionary, fulfillment is the achievement of something desired, promised, or predicted or the meeting of a requirement or condition.
But what the hell does that actually mean??!
That means fulfillment can only happen every once in awhile. That it can only happen when you reach a specific goal or deadline. I don't know about you, but I don't want to live a life that is only fulfilled every once in sporadically. No - I want to live a life that is fulfilled every single damn day.
So, what if I want to find fulfillment every day?
I believe that fulfillment can be felt by taking small steps toward a larger goal. That fulfillment can be felt when you chose to help someone else.
As someone whose brains tends to move a million miles a minute, I am always working on being present and aware 100% of the time.
But, I don’t always achieve that. Recently, however, I took a tangible step closer to that goal.
One of my students was walking by my office with their head down, shoulders slumped and looked concerned. This student is such a great human. They always are looking out for others and help when needed. But they are the last to ask for help if THEY need it themselves.
So, I stopped and asked them if they were ok.
Their response, "Yes ma'am."
HOWEVER, at the end of the school day, they came up to me and said, "Mrs. Seneca I really appreciate that you asked if I was doing ok."
You know what I did? I freaking cheered for myself. I just took another step closer to my goal!
Did I meet my goal of being present 100% of the time? Not exactly.
That realization made me want to redefine the dictionary’s so-called ‘fulfillment.’
So, my definition?
Choosing to recognize the help you provide to others and the small steps that you are taking to achieve your goals. Every single day. So how about we start recognizing those everyday achievements?
I'd love to hear yours! Feel free to drop them in the comments.
